Prompt to Output regression in past months
Richard Boisvert
Something terrible has happened with prompt > output results in the last month or so. My go-to prompts that would reliably provide amazing sounding results are now no longer doing so.
I have confirmed this by testing several different tracks generated before this regression, using the exact same prompt, Model, and seed#, and they generate results that are close but sound off, or completely not the same as what they used to be. Both models are affected.
You can view this playlist to see the comparison:
This leads me to believe that something has changed with how the prompts are being interpreted to the actual results. It takes AGES to land on prompts we like, and now it seems I have to start all over again, or (if the models are permanently nerfed in some way) abandon Udio altogether.
Something has definitely changed and I am not happy. I have already canceled my yearly subscription renewal and will not renew it unless I can find some prompts that sound good or the old prompt structure works once again.

As a casual user with no deep musical knowledge,
I decided to do the "earn free credits" test when comparing old and new.
However, I gave myself the option of "both":
Pirate - Old
There's no denying that the old pirate version is
significantly
better.Western 1 - Both
I think they both sound different, but good in their own right.
Gothic - Both
I think it depends on taste, the clear distinction I could hear is if you want more backing vocals or not.
Western 2 - Old
Just like with "pirate" old model wins by a long shot.
The old 0:10 transition goes hard, not to mention, after that transition the newer version sounds clearly musically disjointed and misses a key element in the melody that the old one had.
So overall, from an objective, unbiased perspective, the old version still wins by a long shot and there is clear merit to this feedback.

The issue started about 2 weeks ago or so and is due to an outtage from one of their providers. Chat GPT API or something is broken perhaps.

There is a also a separate issue where UDIO switched from GPT 3.5 to GPT 4 turbo. This could also be related.

Yeah, I too have cancelled my subscription because this is now not the model I was paying to use. The change was very noticeable with Udio V1 which is the one I mainly use.

I can fully confirm this. For the past two days, I’ve been deeply testing the issue. The problem is complex and widespread. It has affected all aspects of the service, not just prompts. Pop and rock arrangements have become more chaotic rhythmically and harmonically. Vocals now sound "toy-like," and achieving a consistently beautiful song has become almost impossible. Everything bacame messy. I should note that I’m an extremely calm user—while everyone around was shouting about problems about a months ago, I, like a miner in a mine, kept digging for musical gold. I reached the peak of my skill. I wasn’t too concerned if the gold vein became thinner, but now I’m forced to confidently say… the gold vein has disappeared somewhere.
